Lesson from Lancôme: How to do the perfect smoky eye

There are just three days to go until the stars step out on to the red carpet for this year's BAFTA film awards so it's all go behind the scenes at The Dorchester Hotel. A team from the official make-up sponsors of the event, Lancôme, are busy backstage perfecting the A-listers' red carpet looks. So what better time to drop in and get their expert advice on how to create a super-dramatic smoky eye? Considering they look after Kate Winslet and Anne Hathaway's make-up we think we're in good hands.

Lancôme national make-up artist Benjamin Rousseau predicts the stars will be going for flawless skin with a light, radiant sheen at this year's BAFTAs – and dismisses that old mantra that you can't do strong eyes and strong lips. ‘It's all about breaking the rules these days,' he says as he gets to work on our beauty assistant Rachel Singer-Clark. Using the Lancôme Baftas Collection he worked up a strong, smoky look with lashings of Hypnose Onyx Mascara to finish. And his top tip? Using a brown eye shadow or bronzer in the crease of the eye to accentuate the look. Watch our mini-video above for a step-by-step guide. And check back tomorrow to get Charles Worthington's take on the perfect BAFTA up-do.
