You know what it's like. You've finally sorted out the dress, the accessories and the shoes (let's not even mention the drama over the actual plans) and then you suddenly remember you've got to think about New Year's Eve make-up too. So we decided to pick top make-up artist Kay Montano - who makes Oscar-nominated actress Thandie Newton shimmer for every red-carpet event - brains on the essentials:
Want that party-season glow in an instant? ‘Get perfect skin by applying a 50 pence piece-sized amount of Chanel Vitalumiere (£29; 020 7493 3836), starting around the nose and blending outwards,' says Kay. ‘Then dab Chanel Lift Lumiere (£34) in one shade lighter than your skin under the eyes and follow with some translucent powder in the ‘T' zone only to keep your cheeks dewy.'
‘Choose eyes or lips - New Year or not, both is definitely OTT! Use Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner in black (£13.50; 0870 034 2566) applied with a brush in a soft line at the root of the lash then add a generous sweep of MAC Satin Taupe (£9.79) or Chanel's Smoky Eyes Palette (£32) over the lid. Lashings of Chanel Exceptionel mascara (£19.50) to make your eyes pop!'
‘Take a leaf out of Kate Moss' beauty book and use nothing but balm. If you need to make your lips look fuller, use Bobbi Brown's ‘Blush' lip pencil (£13.21) just outside your real lip line. Alternatively, get Madonna's fabulous recent fabulous-in-a flash look by pairing black mascara with nothing more than a classis dense red like Chanel New York Red' (£18).
