The hot new designer fragrances...

It seems like in this fickle world of fashion, we don't only have to look super good, we now have to smell it too... We've just heard the news that some of our favourite designers have been setting aside their sketchbooks and turning their hand to creating brand new fragrances. First to come will be Gareth Pugh's ‘Diagonal' perfume (so-called for its unisex appeal with both masculine undertones and feminine elements) that's being launched in conjunction with the Six Scents Fragrance Initiative which raises funds for the Designers against AIDS International. Only 2000 of each of the six scents will be made (designers Jeremy Scott and Preen have also signed up) and will be launched at the end of this year. Meanwhile, Balenciaga is in the process of signing a deal with Coty Prestige - who already make the Marc Jacobs and Chloé scents - expected to launch in spring 2010. But while we're sure Monsieur Ghesquiere will create something classic and tasteful, we're just a little sceptical about what Gareth Pugh - the man who bought us armoured dresses and invisible heeled shoes - will add to the world of fragrance...
