Emanuel Ungaro: Paris FW’s most laborious make-up look

It took one of Grazia's favourite make-up maestros Sharon Dowsett no less than eight attempts to get the beautiful make-up look right for the Ungaro show. Ironic perhaps, considering the motto backstage (which is actually printed onto one of the T-shirts for the show) is 'do less and accomplish more'. So why the labour-intensive look? Sharon filled us in: ‘The girls need to look like they're on their first day of holiday ,so the skin -very important for the Ungaro woman - needs to be like salt-air skin. The models mustn't look tired so we're testing a new MAC concealer palette.' Cheeks had that ‘first day in the sun feel', using MAC For Ungaro Crushed Bougan Villa on the apples and MAC Cher Chez mixed in on the bridge of the nose. ‘We haven't used powder because we didn't want to dull the look,' Sharon adds. Eyes were the key to the look though. MAC's Graffito Eye Paint was mixed together with Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Cream to create a sooty, smouldering, yet fresh smoky eye ('We wanted that matchstick-just-been-lit sootiness') and lashes were super-curled. Brows were set with MAC Brow Set in Mink. ‘It suits most people and it's like fur for your eyes,' Sharon winked. Stephane Lancien looked after hair and simply wanted it to look very sexy and very natural. 'Girls on the beach on a warm day is what we're aiming for, so not much was done to the hair,' she said. It was shampooed with Garnier Ultra Doux and rough dried. Hair was parted in the centre and texture was left to the models' natural genetics. A bit of Farouk Biosilk was light misted for a touch of shine. The Creative Nail Design team used Marilyn, an Ungaro-style fuchsia tint that works well layered over skin tones. 'It's like lip gloss for nails!' But a word of warning: if you want to get the Ungaro ‘Youthful couture' look nailed, toes and hands need to be super-buffed.
