Style Hunter meets the Goddards!

01 July 2011

Meet Molly and Alice Goddard: design sisters set for a style trajectory. I’m pretty convinced these two will be hot fashion industry tickets to name-drop in the future. So get jotting. I first discovered them through blogger/DJ/general cutie, Bip Ling, who recommended their label, Lovetits (we’re talking cheeky mesh tops with artfully placed sequinned patches – you understand the name now) as one of her must-have pieces for the spring/summer season. Molly, 22, and Alice, 19, are studying fashion print and knitwear respectively at St Martins but have set up their own mini-brand on the side. And with a name like Lovetits (it took some persuading from Molly for Alice to agree!) they were bound to have interesting personal style…

And here’s Lovetits in action! Alice’s fried eggs top put a smile on the most serious of faces down Portobello Road. Layered over a red suede vintage dungaree dress and paired up with those slightly-pointy-toed DM-like boots she bought at Battersea Car Boot sale, she managed to make this cute top actually look anything but cutesy. Molly makes a subtle statement in her black midi dress by styling it with bright Nikes and floral socks – I can’t help but enjoy the unintentional clash of red hair and pink and purple trainers.

Next up, the girls are obviously feeling the jumper-layered-over-dress idea. In fact, we all are here at Grazia HQ. Well, when the weather’s this unpredictable it’s a safe but inventive fashion move. Molly’s gorgeous pink dress is a vintage number she picked up in Beyond Retro and although most girls would wear this in a super girly way, I love the unexpected twist she’s given it with a claret Uniqlo jumper and matchy-matchy DMs – socks essential. Alice’s top-over-dress concoction is cartoonish – this Manga print piece belonged to an eight year old Molly but she’s reinvented this kid’s item with a denim dress underneath (from Portobello Market), Converse and some great Perspex Prada sunnies. Anyone else really feeling just-cut-above-the-knee hem lines?

Such coordination! Despite the girls getting ready in separate rooms, they both stepped out wearing these beautifully matching tonal outfits. And both slipped on killer heels from BStore. Impressive. Alice looks pretty nifty in her thrifty purchases – her t-shirt is charity shop-bought and her trousers are from… BHS school wear department, of all places! Molly injects a little glamour to some classic ripped-up Levis with this princess-like Charles Anastase dress. It’s most definitely a London girl’s prerogative to work a hi-lo wardrobe of designer pieces mixed with anything and everything. No one else in the world does it quite like us, girls!
