You will no doubt have had a thorough education from the school of Grazia on everything Suno related (set up in 2008 by Max Osterweis after a decade of collecting gorgeous Kenyan fabrics, based in NYC, responsible for that barely-there dress that Rachel McAdams dared-to-wear on the red carpet in back in January, remember?). We reported on the brand’s massive ascent into fashiondom early this year and since then we've seen (and probably contributed to) the tons of signature prints flying out of stores and ecommerce sites in the form of patterned traveller trousers, flirty frocks and sharply buttoned-up shirts.
So, I’m always Suno-watch for happy prints and when I went to the Brown's autumn/winter’11 press day (which BTW folks was SERiously strong - lots of new unknown brands alongside all of the biggies to start dropping in for Pre Fall) I was drawn, like the maxi magpie I am, to Communications Director Zoe Kuiper's gorgeous block colour pleated Suno skirt as she dashed between the main store and Focus in the scorching sun. I liked the slouchy-boho vibe she'd given such a glam - and very easily evening - skirt. She should've been Ibiza bound, not within 20 metres of Marble Arch tube!
After a second look at this picture, it struck me that I'd seen this key piece before – and in the flesh not on paper. It had in fact made a sweeping entrance into the Tuleries at Paris fashion week in February - that time, styled in a tougher way with the ol’ classic biker jacket + maxi skirt trick. Online and print publications will often do a contrast and compare on celebs who wear the same dress, but if we're honest it doesn’t usually come down to their varying styles (maybe a ‘rad’ change from black to nude pumps) but their looks and how they fit into sample size! Whereas on the street (fash pack or not) it's forever fascinating for me to see the same item worn in a diametrically opposite way - especially a statement item such as this. In Suno’s lookbook you’ll find a matching silky t-shirt of the same print. So of course you are all thinking about how you’d wear it, right? These are my suggestions below and I’d love to know yours. Speak up Suno lovers!
