Style Hunter meets Dannijo!

18 May 2011

During my petit dalliance in NYC last month, I had a spare half hour to catch up with my two favourite fashion sisters – the Dannijo girls! I’ve long been a fan of Jodie and Danielle Snyder’s blindingly brilliant and totally unique jewellery (Beyonce, Blake Lively and about a trillion fash packers agree) and I exclusively reported on their UK launch back in 2009 for Grazia magazine. The glamorous NYC Style Hunting moment I had hoped for with these beauties didn’t quite go as planned… torrential rain meant that the only option was to photograph the girls in their showroom, meaning that their prime location in the Meatpacking District won’t be in these pictures. Sad face. But that wasn’t sooo bad; I not only had a sneak peek at the new collections and witnessed all of the jewellery making magic in action (the jars of beads and trinkets could’ve had me enthralled for days) but at the moment their office is visually merchandised-up like a rickety cabin, set somewhere on the border of South America, with influences trailing in from Peruvian traditional craftwork to cowboys and Red Indians. It was all rather rustic, but I like that rough’n’toughness when set against the pure glossiness of New York’s best-dressed siblings. And who cares about the New York back drop when you’ve got girls this fashionable in front of the camera…

Fresh back from a sun-drenched cruise, Jodie was feeling rather summery. She had just bought these amazoid canvas wedges from new brand to Net-A-Porter, Theodora & Callum. Following the Grazia fashion teams most favourite of print trends, she’s clashed away with an ikat chiffon dress from Isabel Marant Etoile and an Ankara printed obi belt from Suno. Her Zara denim jacket makes the ready for the city streets. And of course, a selection of super bright bangles and a bib necklace are essential styling-up pieces from Dannijo.

Danielle was working a similar denim + prints theme, but her retro 1970s playsuit gets a new Lanvin denim shirt for a cover up. She’s also toting my arm-candy obsession-du-jour, a Navajo blanket bag. Danni’s trinket jewellery highlights all of the bright shades in her jumpsuit, which is a genius idea when you want to approach your jewellery in a statement way.
