Does your skin need a shrink?

The other day I met psychologist Linda Papadopoulos to talk skincare. Yes, her off the tele. We met to discuss LP Skincare, her new anti-ageing range launching in Harrods.

Don’t let her creamy Americana accent and killer lashes fool you, this woman means business. A trained psychodermatologist, she’s what they call a ‘skin shrink’ (everyone has one in New York apparently) called in to give therapy to patients suffering stress-induced skin meltdown. ‘When tense, the body produces cortisol, which can increase the body’s metabolism resulting in stress break outs and premature ageing.’

How does this translate into skincare? On two levels:  As well as the usual anti-agers like peptides and antioxidants, LP Skin Therapy contains new pioneering ingredients called Nootropic congnitive enhancers, naturally derived ‘smart’ nutrients that counter the effects of stress on the skin. Secondly, the range is infused with mood lifting essential oils like orange blossom, pomegranate and Cypress lemons. Believe me, the scent alone is worth the investment.

This all makes sense to me. My skin looks best when I’m relaxed, eating well and exercising. As a beauty editor with access to the best, I know that most powerful anti-ager in the world is worth nothing if you’re stress levels are higher than Everest.

As for results, since using the range my skin looks pillow-plump – airbrushed even - and I can’t stop going back for more of the Uplifting Facial Water for a fix of the feel-good smell. I’m not sure it’s the new supplements I’m taking (Lamberts Flaxeed Oil and Futurebiotics Omega 7 plus) or the products, but I’m sticking to both!
