Audrey’s top of the beauty charts again!

24 November 2010

Last week Audrey Hepburn was voted best beauty icon of all time in Olay’s Big British Beauty Poll. Well, whadd’ya know. With all the Botox, blow-outs super creams, lashes and fake tan – not to mention the entourage – that modern celebrities have at their disposal, Audrey’s classic looks still reign supreme according to 20,000 British women.

Thing is, if you look at Audrey Hepburn, it’s not hard to figure out why. From an expert’s point of view, her features are perfectly symmetrical, her hair gamine and cute (not an extenstion-clad mass that, if it could talk, would shout ‘I’m after your man!’) and her doe eyes mesmorising. It all adds up to chic, chic, chic.

And, it can’t be a coincidence that as we enter a decade of austerity and wave goodbye to bling and excess, Audrey’s classic looks are back on trend.

Michelle Williams, Carey Mulligan, Emma Watson and X Factor hopeful Katie Waissel have all taken a note out of Audrey’s style bible by working her signature pixie crop. Whereas girl of the moment, NY socialite Olivia Palermo’s big eyes, petite features and classic-with-a-twist style bare traces of Audrey’s DNA. Furthermore, the catwalks have put classic fashion silhouettes back on the lust list.

If you want to sprinkle some of Audrey’s fairy dust over your tired beauty routine your eye must be on the detail. The key to her faultless look is the just-right mix of understated glamour and attention to detail:  Hair must be shiny, brows bold and brushed, eyelashes fluttery (but not ridiculous), lips matte and rosy, and skin flawless – for this I recommend Olay Regenerist 3 Point Super Serum £31.99 topped with Lancome’s Teint Miracle Foundation £25 (the combo of the two will turn lacklustre complexions into on-screen-skin).

Bets are in for the new Audrey. My money’s on Emma Watson
