Ok, I’m officially in back-to-school mode. It always happens around this time of year when I have my first brush with autumn’s new fashion collections. A certain frisson comes over me when I clap eyes on argyle tights, penny loafers and belted knitwear. Sad, I know. I’m currently weighing up whether to buy my shearling aviator jacket now or hedge my bets and hold out for something better. It never quite works out perfectly but I’ve learnt the hard way that the early bird usually gets the fashion worm.
And the same goes for beauty. It may surprise you to know that I shop for beauty products much like I do fashion items. And with the autumn makeup collections hitting counters as I write, now’s the time to snap up your classics, basics, and new season hits before they run out….In case you need some inspiration, here’s my autumn make-up hot list.
The undergarment: Guerlain’s new Lingerie De Peau £33.50, is an amazing infusion of skincare and foundation resulting in a sheer flawless effect. I’m loving its matte finish too – very heritage chic!
The classic: Chanel’s Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in 61 Fatale £22.50, is the lip stain to end all lip stains (FYI Sienna Miller told me it’s her favourite red). The new way to wear red, this blood red looks amazing with an LBD or t-shirt and jeans.
The statement piece: I never tire of smoky eyes. They’re like the black blazer of the makeup world – eternally chic and ultra flattering. For something special check out Guerlain’s new Precious Eyeshadow Palette, £51. One black, three greys, a silver and shocking violet are the perfect eye wardrobe. Just don’t skimp on blending. When it comes to smoky eyes the foamy applicator just won’t do!
The investment: Jo Malone Cologne Intense in Amber & Patchouli £80 is my new season fragrance. Not usually my cup of tea, I fell in love with this deep and musky scent when I was tipped off by another beauty editor. Now I’m addicted.
The new-season must-have: Bobbi Brown’s new Black Velvet range has an amazing lip colour called Black Maple £15.50, which is actually more brown than black. Think maple syrup – rich in colour and creamy in texture. I use it sparingly on cheeks and lips by dabbing a little on with my finger.
The glam accessory: OMG is the only way to describe Estee Lauder’s new Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Blue Dahlia £12. Think the glossiest deepest blue sea, but at night. It’s to die for.
The go-to item: Chanel Nail Colour in Paradoxal £16.50. This is midway between everyday and chic evening wear. A muddy violet shade shot with metallic I can see myself living in this nail colour come autumn.
The sexy number: Soap & Glory Hocus Focus Instant Visual Flaw-softening Lotion £12. When mixed with foundation this gives skin extra radiance for evening. I’ll be teaming with red lipstick and nothing else.
The figure fixer: Lancôme La Rose Deco shimmering face powder in 01 Rosy Glow £32 is my new cheekbone chiseller. It’s like fairy dust for your face.
