Curiously at the Chanel Couture show the other week models walked the catwalk with a naked face (except for a red mouth) and left-alone hair as their mark of luxury. Nothing too out of the ordinary about that you might think, but for a Couture show this is rather shocking as the norm when it comes to couture is more more more.
Looking at these exclusive shots taken backstage at the Chanel Couture show and you get a sense of what’s to come for autumn - and if our insiders are to be believed it’s going back to minimal.
Here Chanel’s makeup artist Peter Philips was inspired by a red suit for the lip shade, which he created using Rouge Coco Rivoli, a deep shade of red in a matte opaque finish. A colour Philips says requires a 'polite' application ritual. ‘I drew in the lip contours and coloured lips in with liner. Then I added layer upon layer of red lipstick blotting with a tissue in between. As a final touch, I used a touch of powder,’ Phillips tells Grazia. Team that with the added bonus of matching nails in Rouge Fatale and you barely need another thing (not even mascara!) to make an impact.
