Is your beauty ‘on point’?

06 July 2010

I’ll let you into a little secret. Fierce shoes are on the way out. It’s now all about the pointy court. Such delicate footwear seems odd after years of chunky platforms and mannish shoe shapes. But looking at these pictures of Stella, Kate and Gwyneth (true style setters) - who were working winkle pickers at last night’s launch of Mario Testino's exhibition, ‘Kate Who?’ - it doesn’t take a genius to see that they’re on to a flattering figure fixer here.

Note, legs look longer, leaner and muscles more defined. Feet appear dainty thus giving the impression of a doll-like physique. Compare these leg enhancers to the clod hoppers worn by Kylie, Donatella, and model Astrid yesterday, and they’re practically liposuction for ankles!

Note, go for pointy shoes without ankle straps. Cutting off the leg with a thick strap makes calves look chunky even when they’re not. Go pointy without venturing on dangerous. Much as I’d love to dig out my Prada winkle pickers circa 1999, the new point is discreet, not a class-A weapon.

Lastly, bare legs are a must – book in for a fashion tan (lightly golden) with James Read at his Agua Spa, Sanderson Hotel (020 7300 1414)
