Having a Royal Wedding Street Party?

27 April 2011

So – you will clearly already have seen the amazoid Grazia street party, shot by the super-talented photographer David Loftus in this week’s Grazia magazine (more snaps below) and we now have some MORE suggestions for you about what to do when inviting your friends and family round to join in the wedding-based fun.

Starting, obviously, with your invitation (above) to log on and join Grazia Daily’s liveblog of the wedding from 8.30am on the big day right through until the balcony kiss. With all the news on the dress (THE DRESS!), the flowers, the food and the ceremony itself, we’ll bring you all the news as it happens.

So, with entertainment sorted, you’ll need to feed and water your guests – though we had a selection of delicious food prepared by the lovely Ravinder Bhogal at our street party (all the recipes are available in this weeks’ Grazia mag), you could also opt for some super simple treats like crumpets (what could be more ENGLISH) with butter and jam – perhaps a Country Life commemorative pack, yes? Or, for super-lux ready-made treats, luxury cake maker Konditor & Cook have a veeeeery high-end selection of fancies with the beaming faces of Kate and William. Pommery champagne, meanwhile, have a commemorative Union Jack bottle of their famous pop minis, available from Harvey Nichols, and Chapel Down, the UK’s largest wine producer (keep it British if you can, people) has a limited selection of their ‘The Union’ sparkling wine available from their website.

For those of you not used to throwing grand-scale street parties (I mean, REALLY), the lovely folk at John Lewis are offering a selection of party planning courses, where their expert merchandisers will show you how to lay a beautiful table and achieve party perfection. Classes run throughout April at John Lewis Oxford Street, to book a place you just need to email events_oxford_street@johnlewis.co.uk. Décor-wise, we LOVE the amaze 'I just can't wait to be king' invites from Nursey Bang Bang (below), where designer Jill Adams has a selection of other things including bunting and prints. We also completely love the Wills & Kate plates by Bark design, available at Maiden shop (useful for more than one street party this summer, if you’re so inclined), and we totally lucked out at the Grazia party by having a convertible mini with Union Jack sheepskin seat covers by Made. We know, we know. We hate us, too.

Finally – what to wear? Well, it should be red, white and blue CLEARLY, so how about starting with some AWEsome cobalt blue J Brand skinny jeans from my-wardrobe (offering free shipping in the UK until April 28th, FYI) and steering your gentlemenfolk towards this super fine cashmere Henley knit, by Polo Ralph Lauren, available from the immaculately dressed men at Mr Porter.
