So this is funny: whilst the vast majority of the world’s designers ham up their possible involvement in the royal wedding, and desperately peddle the most tenuous of links between their latest designs and the big day (trust us; we’ve seen the press releases) Matthew Williamson has bucked the trend by being totally not-bothered about Kate Middleton’s wedding dress.
Wiliamson told the Telegraph at a party for, ooh, some other less-well-known-than-Grazia magazine, that ‘Kate isn’t a fashion bunny. I don’t know why everyone in fashion is waiting to see what she wears. I’m, like, thinking: get over it.’
Ooh-ee-ooh. Of course, Williamson isn’t the only designer to remain wholly unfazed by the prospect of picking up a royal commission, with Vivienne Westwood telling the press after her London Fashion Week show that ‘I would have loved to have dressed Kate Middleton but I have to wait until she kind of catches up a bit somewhere with style’.
As the Telegraph points out, Williamson has just launched his own bridal line, but in spite of this feels that designing the dress of all dresses isn’t really his ‘thing’. Well - ok, Matty. We get the picture. And we guess at least that’s one person we can cross off our ‘potential designers list’.
