It's the moment we've all been waiting for after the moment we've all been waiting for. Yes, that's right, following the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's first child on Monday, the royal couple have finally revealed the name chosen for the third in line for the thone. It may not be a coincidence that the Queen visited Kate and William at Kensington Palace today - perhaps the new parents were waiting for name approval from HRH.
And now we can announce that the name is George Alexander Louis! We just received the following press release from Kensington Palace: "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son George Alexander Louis. The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge."
Of course, George has long been the bookies favourite. What's more, a Babycentre poll of 1,187 mums found that people favour traditional names for the Royal baby, including George and James. Even supermodel Cara Delevingne was in favour of the name - someone buy the woman a pint!
The royal baby should be called George!! (If i get it right I win a pint)— Cara Delevingne (@Caradelevingne) July 22, 2013
Whatever the name, it's bound to have a huge impact on naming trends. In Babycentre's 2012 baby name chart, 5 of the 10 most popular male names had a royal connection (Harry, George, William, Charlie, and James). Other royal favourites coming in the top 100 were Henry, Edward, Arthur, Zara and Elizabeth.
As you know, the Duchess gave birth to Prince George (the artist formerly known as the royal baby) at 16:24 on Monday afternoon before the new arrival was announced via an email from Kensington Palace at 20:32. Cue the entire nation cheering! It was by all accounts a natural birth with Prince William 'delighted' that his wife had a son.
Yesterday, we saw Kate's parents - Carole and Michael Middleton - arrive to meet their grandson followed by Prince Charles and his wife Camilla. Charles said that the newborn is 'marvellous' while Carole, who looked delightful in an Orla Kiely dress, said the new parents are doing 'fabulously'.
Then came the moment we'd all been waiting for: the appearance of Baby Cambridge himself. He appeared on the steps of the Lindo Wing in the arms of his parents, creating a moment that will go down in history.
