Cute or a liiitle bit creepy? [Wrightson & Platt]
What do you buy for a little prince who will inherit crown jewels and palaces? Well according to reports George's auntie Pippa gave him... his own feet. The Daily Mail reports that Ms Middleton spent £7,000 on a solid silver sculpture of his hands and feet.
These silver ornaments, which come with personalised engravings, were made by London company Wrightson and Platt, using the 'lost wax' method. The future king would have had to put his feet in a 'jelly-like organic mixture made of water and a seaweed-based powder' for around 30 seconds.
Prices start at £1,900 for a bronze pair, while the solid silver is upwards of £6,200 as it costs at least £3,000 for a pair of feet and £3,200 for the hands. These prices do depend on the size of the child and the engravings.
So what do you think of the gift? Cute or just plain creepy? The quirky gift is perhaps more traditional than you might think, as Queen Victoria commissioned artist Mary Thorneycroft to sculpt her nine children’s hands, feet and limbs in alabaster.
Clarence House did not confirm or deny whether little Georgie received this present from Pips. 'If such a gift exists, it would be a private gift and something we are not aware of,' a spokesman told The Daily Mail.
Pippa Middleton attended the royal christening on Wednesday along with the rest of the Middletons and appeared in the historic christening portrait. The Duchess of Cambridge's little sister wore an ensemble courtesy of London boutique Suzannah, consisting of a cream wool trapeze coat with blush pink trim and oyster silk lining worn over the blush lace ‘Paris’ dress. As for Pippa’s headgear, she's opted for a pill box hat created by British milliner Edwina Ibbotson.
'We aimed for understated beauty, drawing inspiration from a 1960s coat dress that I bought in LA, among other vintage looks and archive pieces,' Suzannah Crabb told Grazia Daily. 'Creating a couture dress and frock coat not only for the occasion of the royal christening, but for Pippa Middleton, who is so naturally elegant and stylish is a commission that every designer dreams of. It’s so exciting that British fashion has such a champion.'
