When it comes to maternity style, it’s pretty hard to knock the endlessly elegant Duchess of Cambridge. Stepping out in a faultless selection of designer coats and dresses during her pregnancy, Kate Middleton made bump dressing look so easy.
But, of course, there would have been hours of planning behind each of her outfits, with designers creating bespoke pieces for her new silhouette and accessories matched perfectly to her spring-appropriate looks.
Kate also gained some serious style kudos by choosing fashion-insider favourites like Erdem and Emilia Wickstead to tailor her maternity closet. While earlier in her pregnancy, we saw K-Middy repeating old outfits like her red Armani coat and MaxMara Studio dress, and wearing inexpensive high-street pieces like her Topshop contrast-collar coat, when she hit the six-month mark, she chose to work with London’s incredible design talent to find pieces that flatter her shape. Only the best for the royal bump!
So as Kate approaches the final weeks of her pregnancy - the Royal Baby is due on 3rd July - let's take a look at our favourite maternity hits from DoC...
1. The Baby-doll
A vision in powder blue, the Duchess’s choice of Emilia Wickstead’s bespoke Empireline dress for her appearance at the National Portrait Gallery drew immediate comparisons with a classic Jackie Kennedy photo from Life magazine. Her grey Rupert Sanderson pumps complement the pastel frock.
2. The Princess Coat
Attending the Scouts’ Parade at Windsor Castle, the Duchess wore a short mint coat by Mulberry, with spring-like (and completely on-trend) daisy fastenings over a mint broderie anglaise dress. Her trusty LK Bennett Sledge heels and Whiteley’s Cappuccino beret finished this fresh look.
3. The Statement Print
Designer Erdem Moralioglu is best known for his standout floral prints, which have made him a firm favourite with the likes of Michelle Obama. Kate chose a navy and maroon shift from Erdem’s Resort 2013 collection for her visit to a Manchester school and teamed it with a Stuart Weitzman clutch.
4. High-Street Queen
The Duchess has been spotted rifling through Topshop’s maternity rails and sported a black and white polka-dot frock from the highstreet hero at the inauguration of Warner Bros Studios in Hertfordshire. Her Zara jacket kept to the cut-price theme.
