When it rains, it pours with great coats

As August activities go, drinking pink wine in the sunshine totally beats cycling home in the rain.

Unfortunately the British weather seems to have been fast-forwarded to A/W11.

But, silver lining, when Pedalling In Heels had breakfast with Henry Holland yesterday, he showed off the new jacket he’s designed especially for cyclists. ‘Please let it not be vile, please let it not be vile,’ we chanted, because unfortunately a functional jacket tends to look about as stylish as a body bag.

Then Pedalling In Heels saw polka dots. There is a god!

‘I wanted to create a garment that girls can wear out and about as well as on a bike,’ Henry told us. ‘I’ve tried to make the jacket functional by combining waterproof, rip-stop, breathable fabric adorned with a reflective high-visibility ink, whilst keeping it playful and fun.’

Don’t get too excited if you see Henry on the road though. This is a man who describes his cycling style as, ‘Erratic, like my dancing’. Get his coat (available exclusively from www.goskyride.com, £35) and get outta there.

And if you’re after something that doesn’t scream ‘cycling jacket’, check out this trench at www.wateroffaducksback.co.uk, £130. It’s waterproof, crumple resistant and it’s got hidden reflective panels so traffic will see you on the road. Pedalling In Heels is particularly keen on the fact the pockets sit securely in the front of the trench-skirt so your keys and purse don’t fly out when you bounce over a bump. Genius.

What are you wearing for Cycletta next month? Tell us in the comments below!

PS. It’s not too late to sign up for Cycletta, the 40km big bike challenge, at www.cycletta.com
