Last night saw the long awaited private view of David Bowie IS at the V&A, and much like everything else related to the legendary artist it more than lived up to the hype. With the queue stretching around the corner over a thousand people turned out to catch a glimpse of the exhibition which broke box office records – selling 47,000 tickets – before it had even opened.
From his incredible stage costumes to notes and sketches taken down by the man himself David Bowie IS charts the 66 years of the singer’s career. Even the crystal ball from the Labyrinth is on display. Of course a whole host of stars turned out to celebrate with Tracey Emin on hand to officially open the exhibition speaking openly about how Bowie’s music had influenced and inspired her.
Whilst David himself didn’t attend the event we spotted both Nick Grimshaw and Noel Gallagher rushing through the museum’s famed halls eager to make their time slots. Vanessa Kirby also attended in a gorgeous white Gucci shift dress and was seen chatting in the Dome with a large group of friends and her boyfriend Douglas Booth. Star of Bowie’s latest video Tilda Swinton was undoubtably the woman of the night with many an eager Bowie fan vying for her attention.
Julien Macdonald also stopped by, the designer is rumoured to be working on Beyonce’s costumes for her Mrs.Carter tour but practically ran away from us when we went to quiz him about his potential new role. He smiled and said, ‘I can’t tell you whether I’m doing it or not, I might be.’ Cryptic Julien, very cryptic.
