Grazia's Zoe Beaty before and after
In this week’s issue of Grazia (out now!), we’ve taken on one very peculiar trend to see if it’s, well, wearable: real corsets, by which we mean specialist post-lipo body restricting girdles aka Fajas, a trend proliferating Queens and now the whole of New York and which looks set to creep into the UK mainstream before the year is out. Spanx, it transpires, is only the thin end of he wedge….
Looking at the before and after photographs of our girls, it’s clear we weren’t in Spanx-world anymore. They looked amazing, of course, and proved just how effective breath-restricting equipment really is. But is it trend too far? Reading their accounts of breathlessness, back ache and mild panic attacks, is a 24 inch waist worth it? Plus, given that feminism rather effectively filtered out the corset sixty odd years ago, are the Faja girls – as these Hispanic ladies cheerleading the trend are known – undoing all their good work? Or are a woman’s right to curves still relevant? At whatever cost to their health…
