Kate Middleton and Prince Harry at the Closing Ceremony
By Sky Sports News Journalists Orla Chennaoui and Lia Hervey
We’ve met all the top athletes, we’ve been right up close for the action, we’ve seen royalty, celebs and the great British public having a ball. We’ve partied with the medallists and we’ve seen the country go wild for the Olympic Games.
And now it’s over. Sob! But not before a recap of our favourite moments… and a little bit of behind-the-scenes gossip.
The top five moments of the Games have to be watching Jess Ennis running through the 800m finish line to get heptathlon gold, then looking up to see Greg Rutherford do the same in the long jump, followed by the gold from Mo Farah. And then a second gold the following Saturday. We also loved sharing VIP cocktails with Ryan Lochte in Chinawhite and getting a hug from Chris Hoy.
Jessica Ennis in McQueen. We LOVE her.
And we HAVE to mention Tom Daley, who took bronze on Saturday. Nobody could fail to warm to him. When we filmed Tom while he as training, nothing was too much trouble. He’d dive and dive again so we could get the perfect camera shot. When he won his medal and popped into our studio we threw our arms around him.
Last night one of our team snuck into the stadium to watch the rehearsals of the Closing Ceremony. George Michael had an entourage of at least ten people and was walking round planning his performance. Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss and Lily Cole were avidly watching the Spice Girls as they practised and all the other supermodels were jumping with excitement at the prospect of being in the Olympic Stadium taking photos of themselves.

At the Team GB house party last night the media voted shooter Peter Wilson the “nicest Olympian” of the Games. Long jumper Greg Rutherford was voted “the most fanciable”. And if you ever wonder what Kate Middleton’s really like... we can tell you she's absolutely lovely. She was also voted one of the nicest VIP’s, going round to speak to everyone at Team GB House. Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger also made a surprise appearance, posing for pictures and meeting the British athletes.
As well as the Team GB House celebrations, there were parties galore for the athletes. Some headed to China White and Mahiki. Brazil House (Somerset House) had a handover party for the Rio Games. The Casino at Stratford proved a huge hit for many people (including us). There were so many parties to choose from and so many athletes to see. Let’s just say we’re a little fragile today.

The Maddox beach club around the side of the stadium was a big hit for celebs and the Roundhouse in Camden hosted a huge party for the American Basketball players and the American sprint team. One of the runners (we’re not saying ANY names) has been texting one of our colleagues asking her out on a date……ooooer.
As athletes popped in to see today us they grabbed bags of junk food and fizzy drinks. There’s no more focus on the body beautiful for the next few months at least.
And that’s it from us. Signing off for a well needed holiday but it’s not over yet – the Paralympics start on August 29th and that means more sport, more athletes and a whole load more fun.
