Team GB synchronised swimmers in action
By Sky Sports News Journalists Orla Chennaoui and Lia Hervey
Another medal for Team GB last night when Beth Tweddle finally got the gong she’s waited so long for in gymnastics. This morning she‘d ditched the tight bun for some glossy straightened locks. She looked relaxed and calm when she met up with us this morning. “I just can’t wait to have a normal night’s sleep” she said.
Beth has spent the last 12 weeks sleeping with a machine around her legs that sends ice and cold water to her knees and the poor girl’s had to deal with disrupted sleep because she needed to ensure her legs were in tip top condition for the Games. Ouch.
Beth Tweddle takes bronze
The Brownlee brothers took the gold medal count to 19 today after taking gold and bronze at the triathlon. They were quickly followed by our dressage team who won Team GB’s first ever gold in the event.... and Laura Trott took gold in the women's Omnium – meaning GB has now topped the number of golds they won in Beijing.
And the action just keeps happening…
Today GB’s synchro swimming pair Jenna Randall and Olivia Federici took part in the duets final. It was the first time GB has had a duet in the synchro swimming final since 1992, and even though they didn’t medal, it was a huge achievement.
It’s not just the sport they need to focus on. One of the girls told us that as well as training 42 to 46 hours a week to keep their bodies trim, they have a nutritionist to ensure they get the right balance between being powerful and lean. It seems to be working.
And ever wondered how their hair stays in place? Er, try gelatine. It sets hard meaning their hair won’t float in their faces. Maybe one for your next holiday...
The ultimate swimming makeover
And another little secret. Their whole look has been designed by a make-up artist called Pablo. Check out a sneaky behind the scenes pic of him making up Katie Clarke.
Stay tuned for even more updates from what is proving to be the most exciting Olympics EVER!
