Summer's Whimsical Secret Garden Party Kicks Off This Weekend: What To Expect?

24 July 2013 by

Forget all the festival fashion rules if attending the Secret Garden Party! Cue dropped jaws and wide eyed disbelief. Yes, we did just say that. The whimsical four day festival, borne from an aversion to the mainstream, encourages attendee's to forget all about the practical, the reasonable, the rational, and just go crazy. Sounds like fun!...

In a world often dictated by rules and etiquette, the festival, held in Abbots Ripton near Cambridgeshire screams LET'S JUST BE KIDS AGAIN! The grounds are transformed into a garden of magical delights, full of majestic art and spontaneous circus performances, actors and acrobatics almost seamlessly merging with the elaborately dressed party goers. What to expect? Face paint, elaborately thought out interactive games, cray cray outfits (basically, if you're planning on going in welly's, fringed shorts and a crop top - don't bother), and unadulterated... whatever you want, mixed in with some music. Previous festivals have seen performances from the likes of Lily Allen, Florence and the Machine and The XX, while this year's festival - which kicks off this weekend! (we're so jel we're not there) boasts performances from Regina Spektor, Faithless and Django Django. And it just keeps growing! Starting off on one stage with around 1,000 people in 2004, 2011 saw over 15 stages and 26,000 revellers. Wowzers.

But just like the name suggests, it's darn hard to find out just what goes on there if you haven't already been. So, for all those lucky fairies making their way to The Secret Garden Party this weekend, we've compiled a gallery of past images which may perhaps help shed some light on what exactly it is you're getting yourself into. Bear in mind, these are just the images deemed fit for the internet.
