Fashion’s favourite festival, Coachella is set to kick off this Saturday, with a fortnight of weekend entertainment ahead. With every style celebrity worth their salt making their way to the Indio Valley and a packed schedule of fashion parties to help get everyone in the spirit, the big question is – as ever – what should we wearing?
Every year Coachella sparks countless festival trends, laying the template for the rest of the summer season and there are plenty of looks to channel. If you’ve been lucky enough to snag a ticket, you could go for a classic Coachella look – all hippy chic with tapestry jackets and hand picked buys from far flung destinations. Or else you could opt for more of a rock ‘n’ roll aesthetic with leather jackets, fierce ankle boots and brooding makeup.
Coachella Festival in California
The key buy for the Coachella wardrobe is of course shorts – the scorching heat requiring maximum skin exposure. But when the sun goes down, the temperature in the Californian desert plummets, meaning you’ll need to pack a few layers to work your look from day to night.
And there are of course several 2014 updates which are essential to make sure your Coachella ensemble stays fresh. Whereas the floral headband has taken festival pride of place for the past couple of years, this year its all about the chic feather headband. Gladiator sandals have also sadly had their day replaced by a selection of utilitarian styles from Birkenstocks to Tevas.
