Festival Blagger's Guide: Everything You Need To Know About Lovebox 2014

20 July 2014 by

This year Grazia Daily's heading across the country (and overseas) to give you the inside scoop on what it's really like to attend the world's biggest music festivals. We'll be giving you the anecdotes and knowledge you need to a) decide whether to go next year and b) pretend you were there…

This weekend we headed to Lovebox in London's Victoria Park to watch the likes of Nas, M.I.A and Cyril Hahn perform in blazing sunshine. Here's what we got up to...

1. The music

Grazia Daily caught Joey Bada$$ and Cyril Hahn on Friday afternoon before singing along to A$AP Rocky and dancing to Annie Mac's DJ set as the sun went down. Watching The Correspondents on the bandstand on Saturday was heaps of fun (with loads of tiny stages at Lovebox this year, it was easy to stumble across something unexpected.) And Nas and M.I.A were brill (as expected) despite sound issues.

2. The after hours

We skipped the official after-parties and wandered to Victoria Park Village for drinks on Friday night and a house party in Mile End on Saturday. It was way too hot to get on public transport.

3. The celebrities

Grazia Daily bumped into Jourdan Dunn by the mainstage. Sporting a Moschino crop top and matching pants under boyfriend jeans, she told us she was checking out A$AP Rocky and Annie Mac at the festival.

4. The location

Victoria Park is super easy to get to for Londoners - with Hackney Wick and Homerton Overground stations nearby as well as Mile End tube. Plus, it was transformed into a magical wonderland of rainbows and flowers for the festival. Oh, and did we mention the BLAZING SUNSHINE?!

5. The street style

Bold prints, bright colours, dramatic patterns, face paint.. it was all about fun summery style. There were also serious '90s vibes as festival-goers donned crop-tops, round shades and pigtails.

6. What we wore...

We sported a wardrobe of vest tops and midis for the event. Our essentials for the day? Dark cat-eye shades to hide our sweaty face and a white mini rucksack filled with bottles of water, both from TK Maxx. Plus, Illamasqua Matte Lip Liquid in Exotic. BOLD.

7. The food and drink

Queues for the bar were pretty epic - it took us nearly an hour to buy a drink at one point. BUT the array of food on offer was exciting - and Nando's definitely had the best soundsystem of all the eateries.

8. The highlight

Hands down, M.I.A. Despite cutting her set short due to microphone issues, she put on an epic show. She lit up the stage with rainbow lights and threw matching glowsticks into the crowd creating a sea of colour. She crowd-surfed, performing on someone's shoulders. Also, at one point she filled the stage with fans.

9. The lowlight

The significant amount of sweaty queueing.
