Can't Face The Crowds At V Festival? Try Our Top 5 Micro Festivals

31 July 2014 by

If you're sick of the crowds at main stream festivals and can only cope with camping for a few nights then you're in luck. Over the next few weeks a series of exciting micro festivals will be popping up across the country with capacities ranging from 450 people to 5,000. The perfect way to discover lots of exciting new bands and DJs while having a more relaxed festival experience. Here are our top five...

1. UV FESTIVAL
This August will mark UV Festival’s third year, and judging by its last two outings it promises to go off with an (electronic) bang. Held at New House Farm, just a short taxi ride from Gatwick Airport, and set up by a new independent record label, the headliners are DJs Him_Self_Her. Also on the line up is DJ Chopper, as well as Redsparrow and Santiago Street Machine. By day enjoy beverages sat on the hay bale sofas, food from the Sticky Beaks Bread And Meat stall and slather yourself in UV paint. By night, get your rave on.
WHEN: 9 August; kicks off at midday
CAPACITY: 450
TICKETS: £27 (includes camping)

2. ITUNES FESTIVAL
The best bit about the month long iTunes Festival is that it's free - tickets are given away to iTunes users and fans through prize draws. The next best thing is the line-up which includes Kylie, Pharrell Williams and Calvin Harris. A different act plays each night at the Roundhouse in Camden.
WHEN:  Starts September 1
CAPACITY: 1,700 a night
TICKETS: Free

3. SURROUND FESTIVAL
Brand new festival outside Bristol. Acts include Koan Sound, Got Some, Jus Now and Rich Reason. The tents come fully-equipped with a state-of-the-art Dome providing awe-inspiring and somewhat surreal visuals, and it's set in a forest overlooking Bristol City.
WHEN: 16 August
CAPACITY: 500
TICKETS: £40

4. IN THE WOODS
You’ve probably guessed already this one is held in (enchanted secret) woodland, this time in Staplehurst, Kent. Specialises in showcasing new talent, and previous performers include Alt-J And Lianne la Havas. Additionally you can expect local ales and food, a silent disco and a gigantic bonfire to keep things going until sunrise.
WHEN: 30 August
CAPACITY: 900

5. STANDON CALLING
Started with just 25 friends, a swimming pool, a set of decks and a birthday BBQ… now Standon Calling in Hertfordshire hosts 5,000 people, but the pool is still integral! It’s all about dressing up and each year there is a different theme. 2014’s is ‘Lost In Latin America’.
