You, The Fashion Jury: CFDA special

If you ever wondered what the fashion A-List wear to a top-notch fashion party, wonder no more. The most stylish designers, models and all round ‘It’ girls stepped out to celebrate the CFDA Fashion Fund Awards in New York City last night. Alexa Chung caught our eye in her colour popping cocktail dress while Jessica Stam and Karlie Kloss kept it simple yet glam. Check out the cream of the crop below and let us know what you think of their looks. Remember the best comments will be printed in next week’s Grazia!

Red alert

Alexa ChungKarlie Kloss

What a treat to see Alexa Chung looking so girly! The lady in red added a feminine flair to her trademark Brit-stateside style with a ruffled neckline on her vibrant Jason Wu cocktail frock and a slick of dramatic lipstick, but kept it cool thanks to a pair of comfy pumps, proving once again that flats are officially fashionable. We wonder if she had a touch of dress-deja-vu after Karlie Kloss donned the very same mini-dress Alexa wore to the I Heart Ronson event back in September. The model of the moment’s take on simple chic in the long sleeved Calvin Klein shift finished with a black clutch and matching heels deserves top marks but that no-effort hair ‘do and make-up is a bit too school-girl-lacklustre for our liking...

Flower power

rachel royPoppy Delevigne

While the weather is far from summery, these two arrived at the bash looking blooming lovely courtesy of their flowery flourishes. Rachel Roy wore a floor-length skirt with oversized purple petals and kept the rest of her ensemble neutral for a sophisticated take on the trend while Poppy Delevigne sported a pretty floral print dress for a romantic, retro feel but with black accents and a sharp shouldered blazer flung over the top, the outfit is instantly smartened up.

All-black dramatic

Coco RochaGeorgina Chapman

These ladies chose head-to-toe black but proved that the go-to hue for winter wardrobes doesn’t have to equal dull and drab. Coco Rocha vamped it up with pale skin and bright red lips to complement her Morticia Adams style maxi and added a cluster of layered necklaces to steer it away from boring territory. Georgina Chapman opted for a more seductive vibe and looked positively bewitching in one of her own designs from this season’s Marchesa collection. The Victorian-esque high neck and long sleeves of this black tulle mini add a touch of sophistication to all the sheer embroidery and matching booties. Those sparkling green earrings pack the perfect punch too.

White hot

Nicole Kidmanjessica stam

In contrast to the black-pack, Nicole Kidman and Jessica Stam chose winter whites for the occasion. Although Nicole has always been an elegant dresser, recently we’ve been impressed anew with her recent sartorial choices and this feminine frock by Lanvin with tiered layers of lace reminds us of her fashion credentials. Jessica also stood out among the rest and looked oh-so-statuesque in her floor-sweeping gown and colour popping shell accessories. Marilyn Monroe eat your heart out!

And for the best of the rest...

Chanel Iman

Chanel Iman went for the rock-chick vibe in this embellished shift teamed with a pair of sexy OTK boots.

karen elson

Flame haired model Karen Elson wowed the crowd in this quirky Rodarte number.

bee shaffer

Bee Shaffer chose a sophisticated frock with a metallic embossed pattern and curve-enhancing panels.

Anna Wintour

Joining her daughter was Anna Wintour, who chose a monochrome suit brightened up by a burgundy polka dot top with feminine bow detailing.

  • Oh no! Alexa has succumbed to the power of Hollywood and channelled the rest of the boring starlets with this yawn-some number. I expect more of her, ie: biker boots, vintage accessories and kooky cool styles. But this is less chloe sevigny, more olivia palermo. Bring back Alexa-original please!
    HeadtoToe
  • Aww i think alexa looks lovely, what a great surprise! As for the rest, jessica looks like a barbie doll, georgina a witch and karen some kind of circus freak. That's all.
    LeilaLu
  • Lots of mixing delicate fabrics with heavy accessories like black leather and embellished shoes. Chanel Iman takes the trophy, showing us all how to pull off OTK boots.
    hollsta99
  • I agree with HeadtoToe. Alexa is lacking her usual charm and just looks like everyone else. Bit boring. Suits the red lippy though! Anna Wintour's outfit completely drowns her, and any shape she has underneath it. The top is too long and the jacket too heavy.
No one stands out from the crowd here, everyone looks a bit silly, tbh!

  • The red dress is nice, but where is the edge? I understand the wanting to fit in, but sometimes it's better not to. Don't be a sheep! And personally, I don't like flat pumps for going out .. heels, heels, heels dahling!
    MissMinki
  • I love Alexa's usual style, ankle boots, vintage dresses etc. However, I love this too, love the lippy and changing her style for a special occasion just shows she can pull off more than one look and still look fabulous!
Didn't somebody tell Jessica Stam that Halloween was last month, she can put away the ghost costume?!
Poppy is wearing one of my favourite looks from the summer, Floral mini, leather jacket and cut out shoes, however I'm not really feeling it now, even if they are winter florals!
    Kimpenelope
  • Jessica Stam looks absolutely incredible! The shape of the dress is extremely elegant and she looks so statuesque. And the accessories look like absolute perfection with it! Plus, how gorgeous is Karen Elson's hair? Jealous anyone? I sure as hell am......
    Veve
  • Ah, my obsession with Rodarte continues, am deeply jealous of Karen Elson. Slightly worried by Coco Rocha, she looks amazingly polished (something that's weirdly hard to manage with a goth look, what with the changeable weather and running for buses and all that) but she is veering worrying close to Megan Fox territory.

  • Georgina chapman is the brains behind one of the highest flying British brands and she chose this??I'm all for fashion following the twilight trend but she looks more Mortitia Adams than vampire-fabulous!!Poppy's my best dressed-the sharp shoulders and fringe bag show she's been following the trends while the pretty dress hark back to the summer weather that we're all mourning!!Could be head-to-toe vintage or head-to-toe designer-there's really no way of knowing!!-Genius!
    ChasingChanel
  • I think Alexa's red dress is cute but a little bit too girlie. I like her rock chick not trying too hard look that she normally has. I can't believe she manages to pull it off in a pair of flat pumps....so jealous! I quite like the flapper style dress that Karen Elson is wearing...daring but also elegant at the same time.
    fiona25
  • wowser! what happened to nicole kidman's statuesque figure? the dress has the wrong lenght making her look 4'8''!!! the straps on the shoes didn't help either... on the plus side, i'm happy she's back with her red locks!
    null46
  • BOR-RING! You would expect the daughter of the most influential person in fashion to do something a little better than this. Its a tame effort from Bee Shaffer, give me a statement necklace, killer heel or something to go off! She does look great though - just 50 years her age.
    SFJ
  • All of these clothes look like there in a desginer collection.
    rui7890
  • That colour on alexa is jaw dropping, the lips and dress look amazing and a great change from her "uniform", for once she has demanded my attention.
    MademoiselleChanel
  • Jessic Stam looks like a walking pillow... but for some reason I totally love it, she's looking a little but old school hollywood glamour but minus the killer curves
    gennalouise
  • Jessic Stam looks like a walking pillow... but for some reason I totally love it, she's channelling a great modern twist to old-school school hollywood glamour but minus the killer curves
    gennalouise
  • Georgina Chapman looks like her head is mysteriously floating...it seems a little too matchy matchy for me but at least its black and lacey so you cant say shes not trying to be sexy!
    gennalouise
  • I'm loving Nicole's newly natural red hair - but the dress is just so wrong, she looks a little bit like a wedding cake with a carrot on top
    gennalouise
  • Chanel Iman looks so cool... I love the OTK boots and her slouchy yet still super stylish vibe
    gennalouise
  • alexa looks fine, pretty dress, minimal accessories, great red lippy. the only thing i would change is to add a shoeboot to give the outfit a harder edge.
of the rest - nicole looks like a flamenco dancer, although i'm loving the hair.
georgina is a bit too gothic las vegas showgirl for my liking.
poppy would look great in june, but in november.
and as for anna wintour...is this women really the editor of american vogue!!!
    minkybaby
  • Coco Rocha's got it right with this one - love how her beads add some sparkle to what would otherwise be a very understated look. Red lips are a hit too - simple yet effective.
    RitziCortez
  • Alexa looks amazing!! almost like a vampish hollywood little red riding hood. Coco's black column dress is so simple yet her layered necklaces and black clutch add some gothic glamour-her pale skin and blood red lipstick are bang on trend!
    OliviaB
  • Oh dear, what a boring lot. Quite like the girl with the flame red hair in the b/w Rodarte though.Whatever Bea Shaffer is wearing it looks as if it was welded together in a shipyard, shame the rivets are missing.
    Mira
  • Aside from the fact I love the colour purple, Rachel Roy's let the long skirt team down. Love the leather jacket, but the whole look doesn't exactly scream style.
    LottieMKP
  • Oh my god someone notify Jessica Stam that there is such thing as colour. At first glance (and second actually) this dress is boring.
    LottieMKP
  • Cool. Chanel Iman is sporting OTKs in a very inspiring way with her cool shift and glossy locks - a lot of us could translate that into our own humbler wardrobes. Coco Rocha looks elegant yet comfortable, and her long jewelry is perfect for the maxi dress, again I'm inspired, but as a normal mortal would do subtler makeup/nude lip etc. Only unreedemable getup is Georgina Chapman's, the neckline alone deserving a yellow card.
    Expatista
  • Alexa Chung can do no wrong; whether in glam grunge or pretty and girlie, that girl totally rocks!
    marilisa
  • Alexa Chung. Yes she can be extremley stylish... BUT this dress is horrible on her, and to wear flat shoes with it??!! She looks like she couldn't be arsed! Rachel Roy looks amazing, that purple with her skin tone is gorgeous! Nicole Kidman=bleugh.
    sophiejay
  • Im in love with Alexa's looks The bright red makes a statement on an otherwise boring dress and the lipstick goes really well with her skin tone. I love how Poppy Delevigne has that casual rock chic going on with the strong black jacket and the pretty florals ive always been a fan of that look.
