What To Wear To A Summer Wedding: Shopping Fix

Wedding season is upon us and whilst we should be able to sit back and enjoy the pre-nuptial preparations (from engagement parties to hen dos, to pre-hen, hen-dinners) as a wedding guest finding the right thing to wear can be a challenge. There are so many factors to consider from the weather, will it be indoors, will you need to cover your shoulders in church, will you need to wear a hat, oh and not to mention finding a pair of shoes that will keep  you on the dance floor until the wee hours. Here are Shopping Editor Lily Russo’s tips for finding that all important outfit:

 The Country Wedding

An English country wedding is the perfect opportunity to channel your inner lady so pretty pastels and delicate floral prints are a great place to get started. Hemlines are particularly important at a country wedding. Retro to-the-knee full skirts are not only an elegant choice but will work both in summer and in winter. Accessorize this look with vintage inspired gems and trinket charm jewellery and if SW1’s snakeskin sandals are too high opt for Miu Miu’s adorable midi heels instead. A block/stacked heel is a good trick to avoid sinking into grass if the party is going to be held in a garden.

The Beach Wedding

Probably the most fun of them all, a beach wedding gives you a lot of scope when choosing an outfit. Usually an early evening ceremony is expected particularly if you are somewhere tropical, but be sure to find out the exact time and expected temperature at your wedding destination before you begin your outfit hunt. Loose, drapey maxi dresses are super comfortable in hotter climes and also mean you can enjoy a flat evening sandal. Alternatively a shorter cotton dress like this printed version with cut-out detail around the waist will keep you fresh and can be dressed up with statement accessories – don’t forget sunglasses to avoid squinting your eyes in every wedding photograph.

The City Wedding

Last but not least, a city wedding is a fantastic opportunity to be bold and showcase some show stopping pieces. Bright colour block separates and geometric prints on a black base are a more modern choice than pretty florals making them a great transeasonal choice. Look to Proenza Schouler, Peter Pilotto, Mary Katrantzou and Kenzo for inspiration.
