Rules are made for breaking, right? Especially fashion rules. While the white wedding dress remains a sturdy stalwart in the dreams of many budding brides - there's an ever growing trend for an alternative look and it's a trend that our fashion team implores.
From Poppy Delevingne's floral embroidered Pucci gown made especially for the Moroccan leg of her glossy wedding to Sophia Coppola's lilac Alaia dress and Keira Knightley's recycled Chanel mini-dress, there's a whole load of A-listers leading the do-it-your-own-way bridal posse. Whilst a white gown can of course be both classic and exquisite, there's something undeniably refreshing about a wedding dress that feels ultra-personal to the bride.
If the bridesmaid situation throws you off the coloured wedding dress track ('how will I feel like the bride if I'm not in white?' we hear you say) - you just need to get your head around some clever colour co-ordinating: a floral bride looks amazing surrounded by her favourite girlfriends all clad in white, whilst a gold gown looks great next to silver bridesmaids and a deep pink dress would stand out marvellously with a mix of floral prints. This is also the perfect time to play with proportions - if you have great legs, don a short frock; if you're wearing an oscar-worthy floor-sweeper get your girls in some flowing midi-lengths.
Another aisle that modern brides have been taking lately is a mix-and-match bridesmaid palette (see our tips here). By giving your bridesmaids a little flexibility you can avoid the dreaded bridesmaid wars and flatter every shape, making the day even more yours.
