Brian Atwood Has Done Wedding Shoes For The First Time. And They’re Amazing!

24 April 2013 by

You’d think given how white stilettos are all the rage this season, finding wedding shoes should be easy. It’s not. Because the thing with sparkly/metallic/white footwear is that it can easily look really cheap. Which isn’t what you want on your wedding day.

Step forward Brian Atwood – and his debut collection of bridal shoes that he unveiled in New York earlier this week. The designer, who started at Versace, is well loved by A-listers looking for a distinctive red carpet shoe. And judging by his collection of simple court shoes in any type of ivory and metallic fashion-forward platforms, brides-to-be are about to fall for him too.

'I was inspired by my sister who just got married. It’s impossible not to get caught up in the romance of a wedding and creating a collection that makes women feel sexy and beautiful on one of the most important days of her life is such an honor,’ Atwood said of his first bridal-wear, which will be stocked online at from June 2013. 'My challenge in designing bridal was restraint! I wanted bridal to reflect the same DNA as my collection, but with a softer approach – the romantic and feminine side of sexy.'

And what's his advice for brides-to-be on choosing the shoes to go with that dress? 'Footwear can be overlooked but it’s such an important part of your wedding day ensemble. The right heel has the ability to make or break a look. Brides should be aware of how much extra height they need in order to look and feel their best, especially when wearing a floor length dress. And don’t forget, accessories are an area where you can have fun and take some risks, so I say go for it!' Once you've chosen them the designer has just one piece of final advice. 'You should always break them in by wearing them at home first!'

Ok, the prices aren’t for the faint hearted, with prices starting at £585, but how beautiful are some of these shoes? We especially love the fact you can get them custom-made to give you that ‘something blue’ like these from the press show. Shoes you’ll wear more than just down the aisle, we say…
