Two Australian radio hosts have come under fire after telling a woman live on air that her husband was registered with the Ashley Madison website for casual affairs.

This week it was reported that hackers calling themselves The Impact Team stole names, addresses and phone numbers of 33 million site users and leaked them on to the dark web.

Nova FM radio hosts Fitzy and Wippa discussed the leak on Thursday morning, and asked for any female listeners who thought their partners were cheating to phone in, according to The Guardian. They offered to help find out if the suspected cheater was on the list of email addresses leaked by the hackers.

A woman phoned the radio programme and said her husband had been "snippy", and had changed his hours at work, and kept his phone close by, leading her to suspect something was wrong. "When that little thing came on the news about the Ashley Madison hack, he sort of went a bit funny,” she said. “I asked him straight out. He said, ‘Don’t be stupid. We’re married, we’ve got two kids.’”

The host Fitzy then said: “We’re putting him into this website right now and his details have revealed that he’s actually on the website".

“Are you serious?” she replied. “Are you freaking kidding me?”

“Yeah, no ...” he said.

“These websites are disgusting,” she said, apparently sounding tearful, before hanging up.

Some users on social media complained that the phone-in was a cruel publicity stunt, and that a woman should not be told live on air that her husband was cheating. “I, for one, do not want to listen to you two destroy someone’s life on air. It’s not funny. It’s horrible,” tweeted one user.

The news also comes as the validity of the leaked emails is being called into question. SNP politician Michelle Thompson said her email had been released but was harvested by hackers - and was part of a "smear campaign" against her.

Data that was stolen from the online infidelity site Ashley Madison has been leaked on the dark web, according to reports.

Wired is reporting that the hackers, who call themselves The Impact Team, have posted a 9.7 gigabyte file of data including account details, logins and payment transaction details of the 33 million users.

Wired also reports that it includes names, addresses and phone numbers of the users - although as they point out members may have not revealed their real details. Experts have pointed out that Ashley Madison did not verify email addresses given, so users could enter any email address.

Ashley Madison, whose tagline is "life is short, have an affair," have not verified whether the hack is genuine. They said: “We are actively monitoring and investigating this situation to determine the validity of any information posted online and will continue to devote significant resources to this effort.”

The hackers stole the data in July and threatened to leak their information if they didn't take down Ashley Madison and the site Established Men within 30 days.

The following description appears on the Ashley Madison hompage: “Ashley Madison is the most famous name in infidelity and married dating. Have an Affair today on Ashley Madison. Thousands of cheating wives and cheating husbands signup everyday looking for an affair…. With Our affair guarantee package we guarantee you will find the perfect affair partner.”
