EXCLUSIVE: Florence Welch On “Pritt-Sticking” With Karl Lagerfeld And Blake Lively’s New Baby

What a treat Karl Lagerfeld delivered at the Chanel show today. Greeted by a specially-made Parisian brasserie in the Grand Palais, the fash-pack were invited to feast on French fancies and espressos (served by Baptiste Giabiconi, no less) before the catwalk action kicked off. Then it was over to BFFs Cara and Kendall to steal the show, larking about inthe Autumn Winter 2015 finery, which included a bejewelled apron and ceramic saucer bag.

Florence Welch was amongst the lucky few to nab a FROW seat - and sample Karl’s bar food. “I’ve already had two Chanel coffees, I feel a bit jittery!” she told us. Aside from the croissants, Florence had her eyes on the catwalk offerings. “There was a guy in a pair of stripy red trousers which I thought were just wonderful. And there was a big grey trench coat mixed with a mustard yellow blouse which was really lovely.” And if anyone can pull of that androgynous cool, it’s La Welch.

Indeed, for today’s extravaganza, she chose a dusty pink suit teamed with a white blouse and '70s style floppy black hat a-top her trademark fiery mane. “It’s good to be comfortable if you’re walking around a show and meeting people,” she said of her laid-back ensemble. “You have to feel relaxed, especially after drinking so much coffee!”

Florence, of course, is already part of the Chanel family - who could forget when she performed in a clam shell at the sea-themed Spring Summer 2012 show? Karl also photographed her in his designs for the “Shake It Out” single and styled her for a Vogue Japan spread. But that’s not all.

“I’ve made a collage with Karl before,” Florence reveals. Do tell! “We were doing a photoshoot together and he likes to make collages so he pulled a book out of his amazing library and started tearing up pages. Karl and I were Pritt Sticking away and ideas seem to fall out of nowhere when you’re with him so then suddenly he said, ‘You should come out of a ginormous clam shell on the catwalk!’. And I was like, ‘Umm, yeah okay’. And that’s how it works.” Hooray for Pritt Stick.

Collage-making aside, Florence has been hard at work on her new album, locking herself away in the studio. “Making a record takes a lot of introspection and I had to hide for a bit. I forgot how much it takes and it’s quite an introverted time so I got quite hermit-y. But now it’s done, I can’t wait for it to emerge - clam shell-like!”

Before the singer darted off to give Karl her congrats, we had to ask exactly how cute BIake Lively’s new arrivalis. “Aw I haven’t met her yet! But she is likely to be the most beautiful baby in the world with genes from those two!” Something tells us she might be right.
