Preen Autumn Winter 2015: The Karen Carpenter Effect

With The Carpenter's Superstar remixed with a further country and Western lilt played on repeat, it was easy to see Preen by Thornton Bregazzi's take on the 1970s was dreamy and delicate. Soft, billowing chiffon florals (which are surely by now a brand signature) sat alongside primary coloured plaid coats mixed with shearling, lattice lacing up on roll neck knits as well as these aforementioned whimsical dresses, plus lots of frills cut asymmetrically as well as planted neatly onto sleeve hems and high necks, bountiful but childlike floral applique, witchy black hats and black tuxedo tailoring flourished with flouncy trims in side seams.It was highly covetable all round.

Here are the five things we liked most of all...

1. Dark florals

Dark florals with a black base but orange and blue sprouting petals, these prints and the extra pretty handkerchief hemmed dresses that came with them looked like all-year-round winners. And guessing by the many Preen frock-wearing ladies in attendance they will be immensely popular.

2. Lace up

Lace up detailing, leaving skin exposed across midriffs via eyelets and thin string zig zags or simply replacing buttons and zips with leather and ribbon lacing, this was the detail du jour at Preen.

3.Tank top

A 1970s staple that is yet to hit the mainstream retro revival but with the duo's cute floral strewn mini-knits layered over dresses or paired with sweet skirts there's definite potential for a comeback.

**4. Exaggerated hats **

A couple of the more tailored, wintry looks were styled with these high and wide brimmed black hats. They'd look just as good on downtime with jeans and a knit.

5. Frizzy hair

Because what would a 1970s look be without big hair exactly?
