You've seen the dresses, you've heard about the big winners - now we bring you all the highlights from the Oscars ceremony...

1. The hot couples who aren't hot couples

Miles Teller and Margot Robbie, Sienna Miller and Chris Evans - age appropriate, career appropriate. Who cares if none of you are single or remotely interested. Make it happen sexy people.

2. J-Lo's dress double

First we thought it was her seat filler, then we realised Robert Douvall's wife Luciana hadn't got the memo that she'd be competing with Jenny from the Block in the Ellie Saab dress stakes. This is the woman who once made picking your knickers out of your bum a seductive move, soz Luciana.

3. Patricia Arquette holding her own Equal Pay rally

This year's Oscars were held accountable for their severe narrow view of what film-making looks like, and Patty redressed that balance with her rousing speech on equal pay for women. Arquette for President!

4. Call your mom

You can always expect good speech from JK Simmons (he of the 'above average children' at the BAFTAs). But this time he raised the bar, and told Hollywood and the rest of the world to phone home with his 'Call your mom' monologue. Now we know who'll be starring in the live-action re-do of ET at least.

5. Felicity Jones came dressed as Cinderella

No one really understood, but bed sheet skirts really were a thing this year. Anna Kendrick even lost a shoe while singing in a Cinders fashion. Flick's Alexander McQueen dress was just a lot more rouchey than everyone else's. We loved.

6. Neil Patrick Harris sang, danced and got naked

Song and dance numbers were always on the cards from the man beloved of Broadway and indeed the Tony Awards. Doing it in his not-so-tighty-whities was less anticipated, but we enjoyed it all the same. Gave new context to Gone Girl.

7. Dakota Johnson cracked the whip, with her mum

It was the night where plenty people brought their parents with them. Emma Stone was accompanied by mum, Laura Dern with her actor dad Bruce, Benedict Cumberbatch brought both his rents (as well as his 'nearest and very dearest' new wife and Cumberbun. But it was Dakota and her ma-date Melanie Griffith who caused the most waves with their on-camera show of mother-daughter chippiness. Fifty Shades of cringe.

8. Man Tears

The awards took another turn for the political as Selma lead song Glory won the best song Oscar for John Legend and Common, who proceeded to give some serious speech truth on the continued inequality in the US. David Oyelowo cried, Chris Pine cried. Later Imitation Game writer told everyone to 'stay weird, stay different' and we all cried again.
