If anyone could get away with wearing a silk, blush pink nightie in the middle of a winter’s day, then it’s lingerie-guru and generally hot-bod and bohemian dresser, Rosie Huntington Whiteley. And that’s precisely what the super-mogul did in order to launch her first ever fragrance, Rosie for Autograph – the very same name as her underwear collection for the Great British high street’s Marks and Spencer. So there was good reason to put her nightwear wares to good use!
With her new shorter ‘do and accessorised with a metal skinny belt and sparkling vintage jewellery reworked by the deft hands of Annina Vogel, RHW looked pretty as a pin-up’s picture.
Of course, the négligée-as-outerwear isn’t a new phenomenon; Kate Moss is partial to a party in one and has been for decades, the late Paula Yates was an advocate for this dress being appropriate for outdoors, Victoria Beckham wore one to Wimbledon a few summers back, Rihanna has slipped in on more than one occasion and this slinky silhouette continues to be a presence on the spring/summer fashion-scape after quite a few seasons in the spotlight.

So how to look ready for (street chic) action rather than walking straight off the Victoria’s Secret runway? Well, first off – don’t do sheer. You need a weightly silk fabric to make this style work. Casualise it like RiRi with denim and sneaks, or be sure to keep you look ready for the evening like Rosie with a smattering of diamonds and purposefully glossy hair and makeup.
