With the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's 'China Through The Looking Glass' exhibition opening in May, references to that country are in the air. Giorgio Armani clearly thinks so. Here are five things we loved about his latest collection:

1 Gazar

One of the best loved haute couture fabrics, it was huge in the mid-Twentieth Century and made a grand entrance here in the opening tailored looks many of which appeared to nod to Mao.

2. Trouser suits

A rarity on the couture catwalks, like Yves Saint Laurent before him, Mr Armani loves them and continues to cut them in his own, inimitable way.

3. Obi belts

Big on the ready-to-wear runways this season, almost every look came with one here.

4. Feathers

Another haute couture staple, they looked lovely embroidered across a powder blue puff of a dress that fluttered as the model wearing it walked.

5. The Bride In Black

The final outfit has been overblown elsewhere. Here it was perfectly simple: strapless, floor-length and covered from neckline to hem in inky black crystals.
