Exposed bottoms, bespoke wedding gowns, very well-dressed baby bumps... 2014 saw more talked-about fashion moments than most. From Rihanna’s high- octane trend marathon to the red-carpet comeback to rival any, we've charted the 10 most stylish women of the year in this week's issue (on sale now). For a taster, here's a look at the wardrobe of one of our favourite fashionistas...
It was a game of real tomboy and girlish girl for Miss Alexa Chung in 2014. You’ll be more accustomed to her dungaree-wearing, flat-shoe-loving, pea-coat-preppy ways, but over the past 12 months, Chung ramped up the femme factor and unleashed an as-yet-unseen sassy side.
We think it started with her hair, as she revealed earlier in the year: ‘OK, the jig is up – boys just like long hair. I hate to generalise, but they do! So I thought, “Why don’t I just look nice for a second?” and I grew it out.’
Cue slinky satin slash-to-there from Prada, little lace dresses from Carven, pigtails, straw basket bags, floral gypsy dresses, mod-like miniskirts and a significant introduction of pink. Occasionally, the two Chung tribes collide - and creating a boy-meets-girl mix is just as good.
BOY
Although Alexa may have grown her hair longer this year, she was still queen of the tomboys – at least some of the time...
