Tri-Coloured Bags4 of 20

Tri-Coloured Bags

If you matched your bucket bag to your bottoms AND phone this year, you were good to go.

Crop-Tops5 of 20

Crop-Tops

As modelled here by the marvelous Carine Roitfeld, crop-tops were huge. The key is to wear with a high-waisted skirt so there's only a sliver of flesh on show. Pencil skirts lend an especially modern shape.

Denim, Denim, Denim6 of 20

Denim, Denim, Denim

Double denim AND gaping knees. Triple denim is so much hotter than double denim.

Dungarees7 of 20

Dungarees

As seen on the credible Cressida Bonas at Glasto, the primary school dungarees moved into fashion territory this year. To be worn in the most nonchalant way possible.

The Ear Cuff8 of 20

The Ear Cuff

Ear candy without the numerous flesh holes. PLUS there are so many high street manifestations now...

The Full Skirt9 of 20

The Full Skirt

Sweet or cool - take your pick! A full skirt will add a sartorial level of sass to your outfit and will make you walk like a princess.

Leather10 of 20

Leather

Leather, our wipe clean favourite, has been worn in every imaginable incarnation this year. We wore leather skirts, tees, sweatshirts, dresses, jackets (obvs) and especially trousers. Coloured leather has been huge too - just keep it sleek and minimal.

The Midi-Skirt11 of 20

The Midi-Skirt

We like the flash of ankle and clompy shoe combo. Zara really nailed great mermaidy midi skirt this season - and they're forgiving on many a body shape. So what's not to love?

Novelty Accessories (plural)12 of 20

Pile it on and preferably in primary colours - pretend like you're from a Tokyo toyshop.

Patchwork Denim13 of 20

Patchwork Denim

The Junya Watanabe boyfriend jeans were huge at Fashion Week, as was Philip Lim's denim jacket - all part of the 90s grunge look that Saint Laurent started last season and is continuing to champion.

Pink Coat14 of 20

Pink Coat

Cute as a coat button - we just couldn't get enough of these candy-coloured coats.

Plaid15 of 20

Plaid

The trend for tartan took two forms this year: punky plaid and Celine checks. See your plastic laundry bag from Kingsland Road Market for more inspiration.

Rainbow Hair16 of 20

Rainbow Hair

Yet more punk in the form of rainbow hair, but it was given a luxe edge. Acid colours meet an understated do.

Shoulder Robe17 of 20

Shoulder Robe

Putting your arms through your coat sleeves is SOO 2012. It's all about half-wearing your coat. Although in transitional weather it's actually rather practical.

The Statement Sweatshirt18 of 20

The Statement Sweatshirt

We don't have enough fingers and toes combined to count the number of times we've spotted the Kenzo sweatshirt this year. Just about every brand is in on the trend and it will continue to be big next season with Christopher Kane's perfect petal number.

Teddy Bear Coat19 of 20

Teddy Bear Coat

Kim Kardashian can't get enough of hers, so we know they won't be going anywhere soon. A fab combo of OTT and cosy neutral - this will hide all number of sins.

The Tractor-Sole20 of 20

The Tractor-Sole

Dr Marten's sales rose by 500% this year - proof enough that we are LOVING the tractor sole.

So we've been dedicating alot of time to trend predictions for Spring Summer 14 over here at Grazia HQ (well, it is our job). But lest we neglect the tips we can learn from looking backwards.

With blogging, instagram and our love of street style and WWW (What We're Wearing) pics) growing each day, 2013 bore witness to a seriously sassy street style. The streets have become the real catwalks and we've pulled together 20 of the best trends we spotted over the past 12 months. The tips are still worth taking into 2014 - often street trends have more longevity than those on the catwalk. Let's break down the key elements, shall we?!

1. It's All In The Details:

SS14DetailNY-7A019

Ear cuffs were huge out and about at the shows; although inspired by Givenchy's couture jewellery of Spring Summer 2012 the serious gems are now totally wearable, especially with a clean and relaxed look. On the somewhat less sleek side of the accessory world there has been a penchant for the bonkers bags, jewels and shoes - and the more the merrier. Statement accessories are the fast-track way to update your usual uniform. Boy's Boots were the flat of the year, slipped on with cute girly dresses, tailoring and ripped denim.

2. Serious Silhouettes:

We saw statement skirts like never before - from the hugest full skirts of the princess variety to flicky mermaid midi skirts. The skirt to shoe ratio was changed up too - a clompy boot with a flash of ankle or thick strappy sandal with a full-skirt. Take your pick!

3. The Colours:

This was not a year for neutrals. Pastel pink was the perfect shade in 2013, even the palest coat was pitch perfect in deep-mid-winter and it's a shade that will be around next season too.

4. Denim:

Double denim, triple denim, denim tuxedo, dungarees and most importantly, destroyed: from neat frayed edges, to huge gaping knee-holes denim could not be worn boxfresh. Expect even more in Spring.
