Now that winter is officially here us beauty ladies are all geared up to embrace some new lip colours. The changing (and freezing) seasons means that pretty pastel pinks can finally take a step back as we look to mix things up for the festive season. As much as we love beachy corals and shimmery nudes, there’s just something about a deep berry lip which we just can’t get enough of. Plus, this vampy hue has been spied on the kissers of a ton of our fave celebs as of late, so we reckon it’s time you got involved, too. Alas, don’t panic girls, as these deep-claret hues are easier to wear than you think and there really is a shade to flatter every skin tone.

The golden rule? Just make sure you prep your lips first- kissers that are flake-free will make for an easier and smoother application. Our fave lip scrub? Try Bliss Fabulips Sugar Lip Scrub,£12 which is super-effective yet gentle enough for sore winter lips. Feel free to add a slick of balm at this stage too. Read on for our winter-berry lip 411…

TOP TIPS FOR THE BEST-EVER BERRY LIPS

1. BEST FOR AN INTENSE FINISH

If you’re looking for a more intense finish (think J-Law, Lorde, Rooney Mara, etc) then you’d be wise to start by applying a thin layer of your usual foundation across your lips. This will not only really help to keep the colour true-to-shade but will also give your look some serious staying power. A lip brush will also help for a really pigmented look.

2. BEST FOR DARKER SKIN

Those with darker skin should look out for lipsticks with a chocolate base which is richer and more warming than bluer-based lipsticks. Try NARS Semi-Matte Lipstick in Viridiana, £17.50 for a really gorgeous finish.

3. BEST FOR ENGLISH ROSES

If you have fair skin, chose something that’s dark but sheer. Us blonde ladies on the Grazia beauty desk are big fans of all the gorgeous plum shades out there at the moment and reckon you will be, too. Try Maybelline New York Colour Sensational Lipstick in Magic Mauve, £7.14- a real Grazia fave.

4. BEST FOR TREND-SETTERS

Make like Jessica Alba and note how her colour lightens in the middle of her lower lip. Whether it was intentional or not, we think it looks pretty damn gorgeous and we love the way it makes the look feel a little edgier and more lived-in.

Whether you're going for a berry lip or not, this nifty lip scrub is a total winter beauty must-have!

5. BEST FOR FIRST-TIMERS

Not ready to go full-on quite yet? Fear not as there are still plenty of options for you. Make like Lea Seydoux and opt for a less-pigmented lipstick like Aveda’s Nourish-Mint Smoothing Lip Colour in Sweet Plum, £13. We’re also huge fans of the glossy wine-hue (a la Eva Longoria). Try Chantecaille’s Brilliant Gloss in Glamour, £26.
