In October it was announced that John Galliano was named Creative Director of Maison Martin Margiela. His debut collection will be one of the hottest tickets around for next season and today it has been revealed that he will show his first couture collection in LONDON.

Margiela said that the collection will be shown on January 12th during the London Collections: Men schedule, "around tea time." According to WWD this will be a small show with 100 editors and friends of Galliano.

The location is a personal choice for Galliano who studied at Central St Martins and was an assistant to the Saville Row tailor Tommy Nutter. In a statement it explains the decision to show in London is based on Galliano's “formative years and his beginnings in the industry - and it is intrinsically related to the city’s traditional tailoring history and heritage.”

The announcement that Galliano was headed to Margiela was unexpected, especially as the house is shrouded in secrecy. A creative director has never been named before and no one even knows what Mr Margiela looks like. Whereas John Galliano is all about the spectacle.

We had a first look at his work for Margiela at the British Fashion Awards last week when Anna Wintour wore a black floral print gown to accept her Outstanding Achievement Award. This was a big statement by the Wintour, as this is the first time in a LONG time that Anna has worn something other than Chanel on the red carpet.
