Beyonce is not someone who likes to do things by halves but casually releasing an album just after we had already completed our Christmas lists and dropping seventeen music videos at once has really blown our minds. Not only are the songs great, there are a number of full on fashion moments in the videos.
The videos play host to a number of famous faces including Solange, Jay Z, Pharrell and even little baby Blue Ivy, but at no point do the celeb appearances overshadow the sheer number of different looks Beyonce takes on across the videos. After all Beyonce wasn't short of help from a whole army of stylists: Ty Hunter, Racquel Smith, Lysa Cooper, Karen Langley, Marni Senofonte and B. Akerlund. The six strong styling team created a Beyonce for every occasion from ‘Beauty Queen Beyonce’ to ‘Burlesque Beyonce’ so we have taken it upon ourselves to dissect the dresses and rate the ready-to-wear, and we give you the our top ten looks from her epic seventeen videos…
1. Beauty Queen Beyonce Wearing Norma Kamali:
Beyonce Wears A Norma Kamali Swimsuit In 'Pretty Hurts' (Columbia Records/Norma Kamali)
No one works their curves quite like Beyonce and whilst playing a woman distressed by the body pressures she is under in the video for Pretty Hurts, the goddess herself appears as a retro mid century beauty queen. For the occasion she wears a vibrant yellow block colour gathered swimsuit from the swimwear supremeo Norma Kamali.
2. 1980s Beyonce Wearing Versace, DKNY and Missguided:
For The Somewhat Suggestive 'Blow' Beyonce Takes Tips From Oliva Newton John (Columbia/Catwalking)
Beyonce must have been youtubing the 1980s icon, Olivia Newton John when she was researching for her video Blow. The video begins with Beyonce hitting 'da club' wearing a vibrant Versace yellow coat teamed with a pair of DKNY printed leggings. Then when she appears at the locker room at the roller disco she is wearing a Missguided printed bra top- who knew that Beyonce was so down with the British high street? The main wow moment in the video comes, however, with a number of dance sequences performed in black light with neon clothing and lips. Olivia must be so proud!
3. Carnival Beyonce:
Beyonce Shakes Her Tail Feather In 'Blue' (Columbia)
Move over Nicki Minaj, only one woman can do the carnival look the justice it deserves! In a video that is littered with appearances from the cute tot Blue Ivy, Beyonce also appears in full goddess garb wearing a very dramatic piece of feathered headwear and a bikini which was born to appear on the bootylicous Beyonce.
4. Burlesque Beyonce in La Perla:
For 'Partitian' Beyonce Lays Herself Bare... Quite Literally (Columbia)
Step forward S&M Beyonce! The VERY saucy video for Partitian sees Beyonce lifting three scenes from the hit burlesque cabaret show, Crazy Horse. It's all very 1920s vixen mixed with Nicole Kidman circa Moulin Rouge with the diamond masks reminding us a lot of the Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci Spring/Summer 2014 collection. It all starts rather innocently with her pop music highness sat at the breakfast table wearing a sassy silk white robe and a turquoise and black slip from La Perla, but the seductive outerwear is dropped quite quickly and Queen Bee reveals her bootylicous self in an assortment of embellished and strapy, barely there underwear. We salute you for it Beyonce and we want the number for your trainer STAT. Cheers babe!
5. Sicilian Beyonce In Dolce & Gabbana, naturally:
For The Emotional 'Heaven' Video Beyonce Done Dolce and Gabbana (Columbia/Catwalking)
If one plans to do a music video set in a Sicilian town then the only thing to wear, naturally, is a black lace dress from Dolce and Gabbana and Beyonce does exactly that for Heaven. As the video continues Beyonce replaces the black lace with white lace for a very emotional performance, we warn you now you will need a hanky handy.
6. Biblical Beyonce:
Perhaps Beyonce Used Her Telephone To Call Lady Gaga For Her Biblical Costumes (Columbia/Getty)
For Mine Beyonce must have been in touch with her pal Lady Gaga for some inspirational chats. In the video Beyonce appears in a somewhat biblical manner which not only conjures up the vibe of the Valentino Autumn/Winter 2013 collection but also the notorious nun outfit from Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball tour and her Alejandro video. Whatever the inspiration, Beyonce appears to have fully engaged with her stylish spirituality. Its a ready-to-wear renaissance!
7. Supermodel Beyonce in 3.1 Phillip Lim:
We Give You The New Destiny's Child Line Up... (Columbia/Phillip Lim)
Joan Smalls can you handle this? Jourdan Dunn can you handle this? Well Kelly and Michelle it appears that you have been replaced! For the aptly named Yonce video Beyonce has enlisted the help of her model pals to appear as mini me’s of the singer herself and boy can they booty shake like the real deal herself! Appearing alongside two of the biggest super models on the planet Beyonce wears a contrast sleeve leather jacket from 3.1 Phillip Lim.
8. Gothic Novel Beyonce in Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane, Ulyana Sergeenko and Soft Paris:
Its All Gothic Glamour For 'Haunted' (Columbia/Catwalking)
Haunted is possibly the weirdest video of the set but as Beyonce walks down a corridor past a series of rooms filled with strange beings we just couldn’t keep our eyes off that 1920s wave to her pixie hair and THAT suit from Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane. Later on in the video we join a bed ridden Beyonce wearing a monochrome ensemble from Russian designer, Ulyana Sergeenko’s Autumn/Winter 2013 collection which spells out good girl gone bad. It’s the perfect thing to wear to frolic around in bed in, of course…
9. Bejweled Beyonce in Erickson Beamon:
From Bejweled Bunny Ears To Chest Hitting Chains, Beyonce Is Cladded In Erickson Beamon (Columbia/Beamon)
No diva wardrobe would be complete without a serious amount of jewellery and Beyonce is not one to be out done. Throughout the videos Beyonce appears in a whole host of pieces from Erickson Beamon. From readying herself backstage in white bunny ears with a bejewelled band to casually popping to the doctors for a check-up in a stand-out statement gold necklace, there is no shortage of glittering glamour. Erickson Beamon even adds the final aesthetic accents to Beyonce’s grungier looks with a selection of their layered and charmed chains.
10. I Just Walk The Dog In This Beyonce Wearing Christian Louboutin:
Casual Dog Walking Attire From Mrs Carter (Columbia)
So picture the scene… you need to take the dog out for a quick walk around the block, so the only thing one can possibly wear to do this is a massive faux fur coat and Christian Louboutin heels as they are both such practical pieces! We officially worship at the altar of Beyonce Knowles.
11. Accessorised Beyonce in Le Specs and Notorious B.I.G merchandise, natch:
Beyonce Had No Shortage Of Accessories To Top Off The Looks (Columbia)
No look is complete without the right accessory to seal the style. Mrs Carter wore a cap printed with the face of no other than the Notorious B.I.G whilst riding on a rollarcoater for the track XO to top off her urban look. When she wasn’t draped in lace in Heaven Beyonce rode around in an open top car with her Le Specs on. The headgear didn’t stop at baseball caps, the singer of the moment wore some playful bunny ears (very Kate Moss circa playboy) and in Yonce she was masked by Jourdan Dunn.
12. Baywatch Beyonce in Herve Leger:
Beyonce Give Pamela Anderson A Run For Her Money In Herve Leger (Columbia)
Move over Pamela Anderson, there is a new babe on the watch! For Yonce Queen Bee wore a strappy revealing piece of body wear from the god father of body con, Herve Leger. The cropped curly, textured hair adds the final touches to this fierce look along with some sky scrapper heels. It just goes to prove you can take the child out of Destiny but you can’t take Destiny out the child! #survivor
And Finally, Queen Of The World Beyonce in Agent Provocateur:
Beyonce On Her Sultry Throne in 'Haunted' (Columbia)
One word: major. We don't really need to add anything else do we, this video still just says it all. We crown you Beyonce Carter Queen of the world.
Whilst we are celebrating the best of Beyonce's video looks, it's the perfect time to take a trip down Destiny lane and remind ourselves of Beyonce's greatest looks in the gallery below...
