Feeling festive, we also took our chance to sat down with Matthew to talk everything from party dressing to how he sources inspiration for his collections…*
MW on this season’s collection:
"My winter collection has a 70s vibe of starry nights at studio 54 - that sexy, undone glamour which always runs through my collections.
MW on sourcing inspiration:
"It may start with something quite obscure - a unique market find from my travels, a reference to the exotic, a tear from a second-hand book. It's then a question of how we amplify that feeling and mood - libraries, photography and the Internet all provide a rich source."
MW on his top tips for party dressing:
Dress for the occasion but always leave something a little imperfect - whether you wear a floor-length gown with minimal jewellery or a feather skirt with a T-Shirt. That's the style that most catches my eye."
MW on leaving the UK in winter:
"It's that sense of adventure you get from leaving London in winter. Just when you begin to feel nothing exists beyond grey skies and bitter cold you step off the plane and find a world of colour and sunshine. I was so inspired by my trips to the Maldives and Bali this year…”
MW on his plans over the festive season:
This year, even if I don't make it away, I'll try to take that clear mind and moment of solace when I escape for a walk on Hampstead Heath with my dogs Mr Plum and Coco."
